What Bear Bryant expected of an incoming freshman

Read a 40-year-old letter from Bear Bryant to an incoming freshman.
I am expecting you to report in top physical condition, clean-cut, smiling, bright-eyed, bushy-tailed and raring to go. Also, I am expecting you to be prepared to run, hit, pitch, kick, catch, sweat, smell and enjoy it. There are no easy ways but there are ways to enjoy the journey and we must find them.
I am also expecting you to work hard, eat well, sleep well, play well, display a winning attitude at all times, be a leader and help me sell the squad on what it takes to win and enjoy the journey.
Here's another letter.

Sam "Bam" Cunningham recalls the game between USC and the last all-white Alabama team in 1970 at Birmingham. He ran for 135 years and two TDs on 12 carries. USC won 42-21.

According to this story, the legend about the locker room meeting after the game is not true. Bear Bryant supposedly introduced Cunningham to his team and said, "This is what a football player looks like." Bryant was planning to bring in black players and wanted to make a point to those who would oppose the move.

I think the story is so good it has to be true, lol.
